Weather Monitoring Based on Collaborative Crowdsourcing
DESCRIPTION
The measurement of Integrated Water Vapour using GNSS stations from a network of reference stations have been demonstrated.
During the last years, the existence of multi- constellation and multi-frequency GNSS increases the effectiveness and reliability of such measurements for weather prediction. Currently the availability of affordable powerful hand-held GNSS receivers with multi-constellation and multi-frequency capabilities suitable to provide code and carrier-phase observations allows to increase these networks at a level not possible before.
A very promising approach is to promote a collaborative crowd-sourcing where the owners of suitable hand-held receivers, smartphones and similardevices, provide the observations required for GNSS weather monitoring.
The proposed activity will address the state-of the-art of low-cost receivers that could be fitted in mobiles or similar devices and the development and testing of a pilot end-to-end test bed to prove the approach at local and regional level.
